TI Scientific equipment

RTU Institute of Telecommunications owns scientific Fiber Optical Transmission Systems laboratory with optical-access system test-bed up to 14 Gbit/s (including e.g. an up to 14 Gbit/s BER testers) per channel. It is also capable to provide various services to the industry, ranging from optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR), chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) measurements, optical and electrical spectra measurements, ending with installation and network analysis tasks.

The most significant equipment (which is also continuously being upgraded) are:

  • fixed and tunable laser sources (850 nm, 1300 nm, 1310 nm, 1500 nm, 1465 nm to 1575 nm, 1525-1625 nm);
  • tunable FBG dispersion compensation module;
  • fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors (strain and temperature);
  • broadband light sources (LED, SLED, ASE);
  • different type optical fiber spools (SMF, MMF, highly nonlinear (HNLF), EDF, Yb Doped SMF, etc.);
  • variety of fiber optical patch cables, adapters, connector mounting solutions, microscopes, etc.;
  • wide range of RF components (adapters, splitters, dividers, cables, pick-of-tees, bias-tees, tunable and fixed RF attenuators, broadband amplifiers);
  • pulse pattern generators (PPG) and error detectors (ED) (up to 14 GHz));
  • 32 GHz RF/Microwave Signal Generator;
  • optical spectrum analyzers (OSA), 600 nm to 1750 nm;
  • analog signal generator (2.5 GHz);
  • wavelength & bandwidth tunable, fixed optical filters (FBG, FP, TFF);
  • chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) analyzers;
  • external phase and intensity modulators (up to 40 GHz);
  • optical and electrical spectrum analyzers;
  • variable and fixed optical attenuators;
  • eye pattern Analyzer (12.5 GHz);
