High Baudrate Short-Reach Communication [Invited]

A new scientific article is invited as an invited talk to 27th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference / International Conference on Photonics in Switching and Computing 2022 (OECC/PSC 2022) that will be held on July 3-7, 2022 in Toyama, Japan. The paper is developed with the contributions from the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden (Sweden), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Institute of Telecommunications at Riga Technical University (Latvia), Keysight Technologies GmbH (Germany), Nokia Bell Labs (United States), II-VI Incorporated (United States), College of Information Science and Electrical Engineering at Zhejiang University (China), and RTU ComTech.

What the paper is about?

In this paper, we demonstrate a 200 Gbps IM/DD link without any optical amplification using the C-band EML [18,19] having 3.3 dBm of modulated output power and O-band DML [20] having 7.3 dBm of modulated output power. We achieve below 6.25% overhead (OH) hard-decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) threshold of 4.5×10-3 after 200 meters of single-mode fiber (SMF) with EML and after 20 km of SMF with DML using only decision feedback equalizer (DFE) with 33 feed-forward taps (FFT) and 3 feedback taps (FBT). We transmit 200 Gbaud OOK and 108 Gbaud PAM4 with the EML. We also transmit 150 Gbaud OOK and 106 Gbaud PAM4 with the DML.

The paper will be presented at OECC/PSC 2022 under the topic “Photonic Switching Devices, Systems and Networks”
